The Dominican Republic is located in the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region. Christopher Columbus reached the Dominican Republic in 1492. Santo Domingo became the country's capital.
I have always found it interesting that such a small island as Hispanola would be home to two different countries (Haiti & Domnican Republic) with their corresponding differences in language (French & Spanish) and culture. I believe that the Dominican Republic produces more major league ball players per sqauare mile than any other place on Earth.
